How will my kitchen cabinets look like this?
SuzieQ92 asked:
We can’t afford new cabinets and we want to lighten our kitchen cabinets. They are stained a dark brown color. We plan to prime and paint whether we do just the doors or all of the cabinets. We considered leaving the cabinets the brown color they are now and painting the doors off-white/cream. We will use black knobs, drawer pulls and hinges. How do you think this will look? Please tell me the reason behind your answer and don’t just say that you think it will look good or bad.

Thanks!
So what if we painted the upper cabinets cream and do black hardware and leave the lower cabinets wood and do the same black hardware?
That was my husband’s first choice.

I’ve actually DONE that before for a customer. It did indeed look very nice.

I don’t think that will look too good. The cabinets being dark and the doors light, too vast of a contrast. I’d paint the entire cabinet. If your husband is handy, consider installing your own cabinets. I did that. We had an estimate for our kitchen for $9500. I did it just as they were going to for $4000.

If you take your time and do a good job cabinets will look brand new when painted. I would paint the entire extirior of the cabinet. It will save you thousands of dollars as well.

Cabinents dont usually have more than 2 colors. Some do however. The problem answering remodling questions is that i dont know the style of the house nor what the other rooms look like or other colors in the kitchen. However, from what i have read i would not suggest it. Its just plain not a good idea and difficult to change/fix if done wrong. I would just suggest getting some new knobs and prime all the cabinents and doors lighter color. What ever you decide on I hope you enjoy your new kitchen.

Okay well first of all, you want to leave the cabinets brown and so that color is not going to match that same TYPE of white paint you are getting and okay i wont say it is going to look “bad” i will say it is going to look “UGLY”. Then you want to put black knobs on white with brown…UMMMM SO BLACK/WHITE AND BROWN….ARE YOU MAKING A BULL FOR A CUPBOARD? If you want to make it a rodeo scene in the kitchen perhaps you do have something here afterall…….add some lasoes..dont know the spelling..you can tell how country i am……drawer pull??? hmmm there ya go…ya can use some ol’ horse reins for those!

try drawing a pic of your cabinets and color them in best to match your colors. I would NOT suggest the BLACK hardware because you have browns and beiges as your base colors. Instead, try a goldish silver brushed aluminum look or browner.(bronzier ) Brushed aluminums are less shiny and look richer. Check out Home Depot, they have many colors to choose from.
Also, be sure to grab several several swatches (free samples in the paint dept at HD) This way you can compare several shades of beige to match the kitchen counters and floors. It is very important to tie in all thees colors to
your floors and counter tops to get the right look. Especially in a kitchen because kitchens tend to be a major focal point of a house and you don’t want it to look too “busy”
sounds nice, though. Good luck !

love cream coled cabinets with black knobs! i’ve seen it done and i know mixing paint with wood is popular now, but i’d paint the doors and the cabinets. it will look very nice. if you still want some wood, i think it will only look good on an island or the lower cabinets.

I really like the look of cream cabinets and doors with the black hardware. To add an extra zip, add a brown glaze to the cream cabinets. You end up taking most of the glaze back off but it’s a fabulous look and VERY easy to do.
